Brandon Kayquoptewa, a member of the Rabbit Clan from Hotevilla Village on Third Mesa, is a versatile carver who can create highly detailed work as well as classic traditional or old-style katsin tihut (katsina dolls).   We have been handling his work for over a decade.   These are some of the ones we are fortunate to have on hand.

(right)   The Yöngötsina or Cactus plant katsina.   The fruit of various cacti were eaten --usually prepared for stews-- while others provided a dye or were food for the deer the Hopi hunted.   It measures 13 inches high.   $300.

The Sun katsina rarely appears as a dancer in the ceremonies, but the deity it represents is central to Hopi life. The solstice and equinox rites all mark important changes in the direction of the sun and mark crucial times for their agrarian way of life. He is literally the bringer of light and life. This one measures 12 inches high and is $275.

The Manang or Lizard katsina is one of Brandon's old style carvings.   It measures 9.5 inches to the tip of the feathers and is $125.

Brandon's White Bear or Kocha Hanau Katsina.

The White Bear has such great strength that is is felt he can cure the sick.   This one stands 9.5 inches high.
